Keto was first used in the 1920s to treat kids with epilepsy. Since then, scientists have been trying to find out more about keto.

Most studies agree that keto is both safe and effective. However, it’s important to keep in mind that the diet may have some drawbacks as well.

First of all, keep in mind that you have to stick to the diet plan if you want it to work for you. It may not give the same results for everyone, as everyone is different.

If you are going to go on a keto diet, make sure you talk to your doctor to resolve any concerns that you may have. Extra care should be taken if you already have a health condition.


Things to Consider Before you Use a Keto Diet

During the first month, the keto diet will make weird changes in your body, as you will get used to fat. The diet will have an impact on the blood sugar, insulin, energy and hormone levels in your body. These changes may not be good for you if you have certain health issues.

Generally, most keto diets are safe but if you fall in any of the categories given below, we suggest that you consult your doctor to customize the diet to cover your needs.

  • Diabetes
  • High blood pressure
  • Kidney disease
  • Adrenal gland problems
  • Teens and adolescents
  • Pregnant women

Since your body will take a while to get used to the fat diet, it’s not a good idea to start a session before the completion of the transition.

If you have an eating disorder, you should work with a good health care professional. Since anorexics already have restricted calorie consumption, they should monitor their keto diet in order to avoid starvation.

With the keto diet, many people have developed a good eating habit. So, the keto diet can help you improve your overall health. The idea is to opt for the right ratio of macros. We will read more about macros in the next chapter.
